  • Protect Your Presentations – AutoSave in LibreOffice Impress

Are you creating a presentation for school, work, or a conference? Don’t let a sudden crash cost you hours of work. LibreOffice Impress makes it easy to enable AutoSave and presentation backups, so you won’t lose the results of your work even if something goes wrong.

In this guide, we will show you step by step how to protect your slides from being lost.

Why is it worth enabling AutoSave in Impress?

How to enable AutoSave and backup copies in Impress?

    Launch LibreOffice Impress.

    Go to:
    Tools → Options
    (On macOS: LibreOffice → Preferences)

    Select on the left side:
    Load/Save → General

    Check the following two options:

Save AutoRecovery information every X minutes (e.g., every 5 minutes)

    Always create backup copy

    Confirm by clicking OK.

    Where are backup copies stored?

By default, LibreOffice creates backup files in the folder:

    C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\backup (Windows)

    or

    ~/.config/libreoffice/4/user/backup (Linux)

You can change the backup location in:

    Options → LibreOffice → Paths → Backups

    Additional tips

Use Ctrl + S regularly — a backup copy is created when you manually save the file.

It is a good idea to export the presentation to PDF from time to time as an additional safeguard.

Backup copies overwrite previous versions — if you want to keep a history of changes, create manual copies.
